WEEK 1: WEDNESDAY
God, holy Father, may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Strengthen in us the priestly attitude of your Son: “Behold, I come to do your will, O God.”
May we sense your will through one another, through the various situations we encounter, and through all your children. Accept us as your collaborators for the building of your reign in this world.
Enable us to abandon ourselves to your care. In this way, may we live as Jesus did when he offered you his spirit on the cross. Amen.

The joy of God’s holy people

READING – 1 Peter 4:13-14
Beloved, rejoice in the measure that you share Christ’s sufferings. When his glory is revealed, you will rejoice exultantly. Happy are you when you are insulted for the sake of Christ, for then God’s Spirit in its glory has come to rest on you.

Luke 1:68-79
The Messiah and his forerunner
Blessed + be the Lord, the God of Israel; *
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty savior, *
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old †
that he would save us from our enemies, *
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers *
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham: *
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear, *
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High; *
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

In the tender compassion of our God *

INTERCESSIONS
The Lord Jesus built his holy people on the foundation of the apostles and prophets. In faith let us pray:
Bless your Church, O Lord.
You prayed that the faith of Peter would not fail,
– strengthen the faith of your Church.
You appeared to Peter after your resurrection and you appeared to Saul on the road to Damascus,
– strengthen our faith, so that we may steadfastly proclaim that you have risen from the dead.
You chose Paul as an apostle to preach your message to the Gentiles,
– make us faithful preachers of your Gospel.
You mercifully forgave Peter’s denials,
– forgive us all of our sins.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
(Remember us, Lord, when you come into your kingdom, and teach us to pray:)
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
CONCLUDING PRAYER
O God, who on the Solemnity of the Apostles Peter and Paul
give us the noble and holy joy of this day,
grant, we pray, that your Church
may in all things follow the teaching
of those through whom she received
the beginnings of right religion.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

DISMISSAL
