DAILY OBLATION

WEEK IV: THURSDAY

Leader:

Called to participate every day in [the] sacrifice of the New Covenant, we unite ourselves with the perfect oblation that Christ presents to the Father, in order to share deeply in it through the spiritual sacrifice of our lives. (Const. #81)

Community:

Blessed are you, O God, for through the dying and rising of Jesus you show us your passionate love. And as often as we celebrate his offering, the work of our redemption is made present.

Gracious God, open our hearts, which we offer you today. Make us holy by helping us to live the mystery we celebrate. May we show our love for you and for your beloved Son  by working on the streets of the world in service to your gospel.

A call to praise God

The joy of God’s holy people

Psalm Prayer: Let Israel rejoice in you, Lord, and acknowledge you as creator and redeemer. We put our trust in your faithfulness and proclaim the wonderful truths of salvation. May your loving kindness embrace us now and for ever.

GOSPEL CANTICLE

Luke 1:68-79
The Messiah and his forerunner

Blessed + be the Lord, the God of Israel; *
he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior, *
born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old †
  that he would save us from our enemies, *
  from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers *
and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham: *
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear, *
holy and righteous in his sight
   all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High; *
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation *
by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God *
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, *
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

INTERCESSIONS

In faith let us call upon Christ who sent John to prepare for his coming:

Dawn from on high, break upon us.

Your coming caused John the Baptist to leap for joy in his mother’s womb,
– help us to rejoice at your coming among us.

Through the life and preaching of the Baptist you showed us the way to repentance,
– turn our hearts to follow the commandments of your kingdom.

You willed that your coming among us should be announced by John the Baptist,
– send new heralds to proclaim you throughout the world.

You wished to be baptized by John in the Jordan to fulfill all that the Father required,
– help us to do the Father’s will.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

(Now let us pray as Christ the Lord has taught us:)

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

CONCLUDING PRAYER

God our Father,
you raised up John the Baptist
to prepare a perfect people for Christ the Lord.
Give your Church joy in spirit
and guide those who believe in you
into the way of salvation and peace.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
– Amen.

DISMISSAL

If a priest or deacon presides, he dismisses the people:

The Lord be with you.
– And with your spirit.

May almighty God bless you,
the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
– Amen.

Another form of the blessing may be used, as at Mass.
Then he adds:
